What is 'Human Factors'?

The term human factors is used for the application of human physiology and psychology to the design of products and systems.  The formal consideration of human factors in a system or interface design will improve safety, health, usability and performance.

As human factors specialists (psychologists and ergonomists) we understand people their physical attributes and their behaviour.  We use this understanding of humans to support the design of equipment and systems to improve safety, health and performance.

Our work includes providing human factors advice and assurance services to our clients in a wide range of sectors including energy, marine, rail and air transport, highways, health services, and defence.

Our technical capabilities include physical ergonomics, cognitive ergonomics (usability), and organisational psychology.  Our support is relevant throughout the entire lifecycle of products and assets.  Our expertise will help to ensure the feasibility of operations, the usability of equipment and the reliability of performance.  In this way we can make a vital contribution to the performance and safety of your enterprise
