Human Engineering has extensive experience and understanding of the human factors issues relating to air transport. Projects range from research into new technologies for air traffic control through to improving the passenger experience. We have worked for airports, airlines, handling agents, equipment suppliers, regulatory bodies and ANSPs.
The application of human factors is centred on people. When ergonomics & human factors principles are applied to signalling control centre design, the user is at the centre of the design process
Human Engineering has significant expertise, gained across several industry sectors, in helping to define optimal control room working arrangements and in supporting the design of control rooms from concept through to detailed design. Notable previous projects for the oil & gas and process industries include:
Human Engineering was commissioned to act as the access consultant to the lead architects and developers for the Westfield London Shopping Centre, the largest urban area indoor shopping centre in Europe. Our role as access consultants was to aid our client to design a space which was accessible to all, with a particular focus on disabled people and the elderly.
The Welsh Assembly Government decided to combine their Cathays Park Switchboard with the Assembly Library and Publications Service to bring together the services the public use “when they don’t know who to contact” for telephone and publication enquiries respectively. Human Engineering Limited was engaged to carry out an accessibility assessment of their consolidated telephone switchboard and enquiry services.
As part of the rail industry’s R&D programme Human Engineering were tasked to evaluate the standard of safety critical communications. The research had a particular focus upon identifying areas in which the standards of communications could be improved and how the communication protocols and formalisations mandated in the Rule Book could be used to promote safe and effective communication between rail staff.
Our client wanted to revolutionalise the way that assets were assured and introduced to the railway. With some high profile projects underway in preparation for the London 2012 Olympics, it was imperative that any assets introduced to the Railway were timely, safe and sufficient and fulfilled the original requirements.
The purpose of this project was to support and enable the workforce at the refinery to make the necessary transformation to a high safety and performance culture.
Effective integration of human factors (HF) and ergonomic requirements within engineering design projects can lead to significant improvements in usability, providing enhanced levels of safety and efficiency, along with a reduction in engineering hours and project rework. As the world’s largest specialist HF consultancy, Human Engineering has both the experience and expertise to support the application of HF in both brownfield and greenfield project environments.
