Sociotechnical systems
Any complex enterprise relies on its people to perform skilled tasks, often using sophisticated technology and working in accordance with defined processes and procedures. The interdependent and interacting elements of people, processes and technology make up what is known as a sociotechnical system.
Our clients in the marine, transportation and energy sectors operate complex sociotechnical systems. People perform vital functions within those systems to maintain integrity, achieve operational targets, and assure safety. Typically the consequences of loss to life, property or reputation in these enterprises are so enormous as to be intolerable, and so only the most rigorous approach to risk management will suffice.
Human Engineering has developed an Organisational Integrity assessment methodology. This can be applied to any organisation to identify opportunities to improve the management of skilled behaviour and assure effective bottom-line performance.
