Control room design
When ergonomics principles are applied to control room design, the user is at the centre of the design process.
This involves consideration of the physical and mental (cognitive) characteristics of users that should be applied to the design of an object, component of a system, or environment. Failure to do so may result in the creation of an unsafe and inefficient operation.
We are very experienced at working with architects, desk manufacturers and equipment suppliers in order to design the layout of the building and location of all operational areas/rooms, developing room/desk layouts, specifying the desk dimensions and laying out the equipment on the desk. In addition, we are skilled at defining manning levels, providing assurance on workload, and managing the potential for human error.
Human Engineering has a comprehensive library of ergonomics standards, design guidelines and anthropometric databases. We also have a detailed understanding of the constraints imposed by human capabilities and behaviour on engineering solutions that impact on the efficient and safe operation of a control room. Our ergonomists have the ability to apply this knowledge and information to provide usable, safe and cost effective control room designs.
