Workplace design
The design of a workplace should be effective in meeting the functional requirement of users and stakeholders as well as ensuring that the design provides a safe, comfortable and intuitive working environment. Workplaces that do not consider the user can be uncomfortable and counterintuitive and may also result in operational issues (e.g: violations of protocol), and could impact upon safety and productivity. A well designed workplace will adopt the most effective use of space and placing of equipment, ensuring a comfortable working environment for the user to maximise efficiency.
Human factors plays a significant role in the design of workplaces, ensuring the user is considered throughout the development of the design. We ensure that human factors best practices are adhered to in the design of the workplace area, making best use of space, appropriate access requirements, optimum placing of equipment and the effective integration of the workplace into the surrounding environment. Activities undertaken can include: design assessments, task analyses, assessment of the workplace environment (lighting and acoustics) postural / workload assessments and user consultation in order to provide the best workplace design solution.
Human Engineering has worked on many workplace design projects, such as: airport management centres, station control rooms, oil platform control centres, with many of these being extensive and operationally critical control rooms.
