HAZID/HAZOP support
HAZID/HAZOPs identify the human factors issues that may contribute to the risk of major accident hazards during a process or activity. HAZOP/HAZIDs cover all of the activities associated with a process or task to identify detailed human factors issues and / or specific potential human failures during human tasks that may contribute to a major accident hazard.
To complete a HAZID/HAZOP, Human Engineering employs a method with three main steps:
A. Identify the hazards that may lead to a major accident
B. Consider the human activities that may contribute to those hazards
C. Identify the human factors issues that may increase the likelihood of failure during those human activities
Human factors issues identified are routinely grouped, for example: novel / non-routine tasks, training & competence, procedures, communication, organisational / cultural differences, system / equipment interfaces, working environment, etc.
HAZID/HAZOPs are most effective when used as a precursor to further preventative work, such as a human factors issues log process which will ensure the issues are managed and mitigated against effectively.
