James Amende - Managing Director
James is the Managing Director of Human Engineering and established the company with Ian in 1995. With a background originally in Physics he became interested in Ergonomics in the mid 1980's. As Operations Director of a multi-discipline engineering consultancy in Bristol he was introduced to Ian in the early 1990's and they worked together before co-founding Human Engineering. James takes an active role in both commercial management and business development, and is the company Data Controller
W Ian Hamilton - Technical Director
Ian is a founding Director of Human Engineering. He began his career in human factors in the defence sector in 1984 and then moved to air traffic management. For the past 15 years he has worked in consultancy and has expanded his areas of interest to include most aspects of human factors practice, although he maintains a particular interest in workload modelling, human performance prediction, and Human Factors Integration. At Human Engineering Ian has led the growth of the professional team, managing work in the defence, air, rail, utilities and oil & gas sectors. He has a BSc in Psychology, an MSc in Ergonomics, is a Chartered Psychologist and a Fellow of the Institute of Ergonomics & Human Factors.
Simon Layton - Americas Human Factors Business Manager
Simon is responsible for human factors activities in North America across all Lloyd's Register sectors. He also manages HF projects across a wide range of safety critical industries, including energy, marine and transportation. He has been with Human Engineering since its formation in 1995 and has worked in the field of human factors and ergonomics since graduating in 1989. He has a BSc (Hons) in Ergonomics and an MSc in Information Technology.
Karl Rich - Director of Marine Human Engineering Services
Karl is our director of projects who has worked in Human Factors and Training Development since 1989. Karl has an MSc in Ergonomics from Loughborough University and has published a number of papers on a wide variety of subjects, including shift work, ship motion effects and staff assault training and avoidance.
Finola Austin - Director of Resources
Finola is our Director of Resources and has ergonomics and human factors experience across a wide range of safety critical industries. Prior to joining Human Engineering, Finola worked as an Occupational Therapist for 13 years and has used this experience on a range of projects related to medical product design as well as accessibility of the built environment, transport and other services.
